Founder and Owner: Vahe Imasdounian
Vahe Imasdounian, a third generation leather tanner,
founded Danfield, Inc. in 1981. The family’s history in
the trade can be traced as far back as the 1880’s when
his grandfather started a leather tannery. After immigrating to the United States
in the late 1970’s, Vahe Imasdounian brought the family
tradition to Los Angeles and established his leather
finishing plant in the City of Commerce, California. Having grown up
in the business, Vahe learned the process of leather
tanning from the ground up. He has traveled the globe in
search of high quality hides and transformed Danfield,
Inc. from a small
1,000 square foot facility into a
60,000 production facility with state of the art,
digital machinery that produces thousands of square feet
of leather hides per day.
Today Danfield, Inc. is the only U.S.
based finishing plant west of Wisconsin. The current
state of environmental affairs and the personal
responsibility Mr. Imasdounian feels toward Mother Earth
prompted him to develop EcoHides™, an ecologically
friendly, non-toxic leather for the furniture, airline
and fashion industries. |
